We are the champions!

| | Comments (1)

That's right! Our softball team won the league championship tonight. We had to play two games tonight and the final game was a blow out. I feels great, but I'm beat. Time to crash.

Update: Okay, the details. The final night of the summer season has the final four teams playing. The winners from the first two games play each other for the championship. We started about 40 minutes late because the refs forgot the bases back "at the office." The first game was very, very close, and we ended up winning in the bottom of the 7th inning. It was probably my best pitching performance of the season. We had the usual rules argument about how many women had to be playing. We knew the rules, the ref knew the rules, the other guys didn't. Advantage us.

The next game didn't start out that well. The team we just beat was hanging around and cheering for the team we had just beat. They were being pretty vocal too. The first guy up to bat called time just when I was about to pitch, dropped his bat, and did a flat footed back-flip. That got them pretty fired up. He promptly hit a single. They crowd went wild. I got out of the inning only giving up one run, I think. We came up and scored two runs. We held them and then came up and scored four more runs. It was cruise control from then one. The final score was 14-3. It was nice to have a blow out for the last game.

My first four -baggger

That's right folks, tonight I hit my first home run. It's was an inside the park home run, but a four-bagger none the less! It was a pretty painful game in many ways. We were doing okay, but not great. When we had calls that were obviously wrong we groaned a little, and the other team would complain that it was "just for fun" and that we should lay off. That is until they were making a comeback in the last inning. Then it was all serious and they could yell at the ref as much as they wanted to. C'est la vie...

It was so much about "fun" that they sent their female players to the plate and told them not swing at anything. I was pitching and walked about 3 women and then I got one strike out and taunted her a little with a wave after the third strike. They didn't like that. But you know, it was all in good fun. Come on. It's co-ed softball. When you are up to bat, take some hacks at the ball. Run the bases. It's fun!

So we went through the regular season and are undefeated. We should be ranked pretty close to first in the playoffs, which may or may not start next week. I'm betting that they screw up the schedule again and that we will be playing all over the city, just like last season.

Anyway...HOME RUN! WOOO!

Nerve Endings

Nothing really makes you appreciate your skin more than having it scrapped off a large section of your body. Yes, I did something stupid at my softball game last night. I slid into second base, with shorts on.

Normally this wouldn't be such a big deal. You see, we play in the Presidio and the field is all grass. But lately the area around the bases has been getting trampled quite a bit and it was mostly mud. Their solution was to dump lots of sand around all the bases. This solved the whole 'mud' problem, but made my mistake all the more painful. I basically sand-blasted my left shin. Yeah, ouch indeed.

But we won, so it's all good.

Summer Softball has begun

|

So for those of you keeping score at home, I play softball in the Golden Gate Sport and Social Club. The team is put together by Cory, a former coworker. Tonight we had our first game of the summer season. We won after two extra innings. I even managed to go 2/3 with 3 RBIs. One was to tie the game back up in the first of the extra innings.

The one thing that sucked was I got yelled at twice by one of the players. He used to captain the team, but he has a pretty abrasive personality and nobody wanted to deal with him as captain. So Cory took over. Cory is nice. People listen to Cory. Cory tells this other guy to shut up a lot.

Cory wasn't really into it tonight and with nobody to keep the other guy in check, he just mouthed off the entire game and pretty much pissed everyone on both teams off. Even though we won the game, I didn't have a whole lot of fun. That and we had the 9pm start time. Yuck.
