Words from the Wise
Hunter S. Thompson has another Page 2 column out today. As always,
"Dallas without Nowitzki is like Sacramento without Chris Webber. Losers."
Again, sorry Anna. Looks like it's neither of our years.
I can live with San Antonio winning the NBA championship though. Why? Because they aren't the Lakers. That and they have a group of good guys. Tim Duncan is not only a quality basketball player, but he isn't a punk. Or at least he doesn't get caught in public being a punk and that will have to be good enough. So for the rest of this season it's "Go Spurs" with no exclamation mark, but rather a sigh of resignation.

well, we'll just have to see how the chips fall tonight. our team is capable of beating the spurs again, but i just don't know if they have any wind left. it will depend on how hard we defend against duncan. najera and bell will play key roles on defense, and finley and van exel will have to score and score often.
news today has tony parker being sick to his stomach, so badly that he might not play tonight. he missed team practice this morning. although i'd never wish any ill towards another team, parker's absense would certainly help the mavs. no news on dirk's knee today, but my guess is that nellie won't risk hurting him if he's not 100%. i honestly don't think he's 100% right now.
so sorry about webber being hurt! on vacation, i was only able to watch one game in that series (our game 2 victory). i heard it was a great show, even after webber went down. i must say that i really thought you guys had it this year. i did not expect to see the mavs in the conference finals, but i'm happy with the way the conference has lined up. the two teams with the best record - the i-35 showdown - all texas final - wow!
i'll be happy if either team makes it, because san antonio is only 4 hours away. i'd make that drive to see some nba finals. HOWEVER, here's hoping my mavs pull it out!
cheers!
oh, and i forgot to mention a few things. heh. first, the day after dirk went down, out local paper headlined "without nowitzki, it's no-way-ski". non-believers, i tell you. even locally! sheesh, as someone who's followed the team consistently, that disgusts me.
and talk about dallas audiences sucking - they started clearing out with over three minutes of play left! i've already written about how dallas crowds suck, but i'm too lazy to link it right now.
and honestly, we are down to 9 healthy players (3 starters and 6 2nd and 3rd string). i think it's amazing that we won two days ago.
oh, and the only part of my bracket that ended up right was my spurs prediction. i said they'd take the lakers down, and they did. while on vacation, we found a little breakfast place, and the morning after that game we were in their drinking coffe and chatting. the owners had on cnn, and when i saw tim duncan i knew the spurs took out LA. i literally stood up and cheered. they thought i was crazy. heh. =)
