FBI Warns 'Spectacular' Al Qaeda Attack Possible Al Qaeda may be planning "spectacular" attacks inside the United States, the FBI has warned, saying national landmarks and other sites where attacks might result in massive casualties, economic damage and psychological trauma were at risk from the extremist network.
After having been on hightened alert
for over a year now, I fear that this kind of announcement isn't going to have to same effect it might have late last year or even early this year.
UPDATE: Bruce Schneier's new book on the whole "more secure" fiasco that's going on. Thanks Cory! ;-)

Intersting thing, this. While listening to a certain late night talk show I'm too embarrased to admit I listen to, the guest (crazy guy, Steve Quayle) began talking about this very issue around 10pmPDT. He claimed to have spoken w/ news media in the previous week about it. By 11:30pm PDT, the story began popping up on news sites all over the place. It was as if they needed the crazed insomniacs to break the seal on this one or something.
Incidentally, Mr. Quayle also suggested the West Coast should watch out this time. I don't remember his reasoning because it was late and didn't make sense. What exactly does "spectacular" mean, anyhow?
SillyDog: West coast? "Spectacular"? Could it be a glamorous Hollywood gala terrorist attack? MC'd by Cat Stevens, perhaps?
Pat: Bruuuuuuce! BRUUUUCE! (My Defcon IV chant)
