Keepin' it Real

| | Comments (2)

Terry Gross interviewed Charles Barkely on Fresh Air tonight.

I love Barkley. He has always been honest, to a fault at times. I heard him talk to Tom Tolbert on KNBR 680 here in San Francisco and he talked about how insulting it is to hear a black athlete say they are "keeping it real" when they do something dumb. Luckily he talks about this very topic with Terry. It's a great interview. Even if you don't like sports or athletes, Charles is worth a listen. Even if you hate Real Player, it's worth it.

I heard the Charles Barkley interview, too. It was good. She's great at asking questions and showing her interest for her subjects--without fawning all over them like the annoying host of Actor's Studio.

She usually doesn't interview athletes, but I thought she did a pretty good job. She's no Rome (betcha didn't know I knew who that was...Toby listens to him and I much prefer him over Stern in the morning if I have to choose).

ciao,
Kim

I heard it too, and it was good. It put a human face on the persona for me. He also commented at the end out how glad he was to do a public radio interview, so he wouldn't be edited into sounding like an idiot.

But I had to laugh out loud when he said (about 20 times), "I won't get fat, I'm not gonna get fat." I think he's going to get fat.
