Football tech

So I don't know if this is the first week that ESPN has used it, but they have this nifty new camera for football games. It's really small and it flies about 10-15 yards over the field. Then as the action moves the camera can follow right over the top of it. It give great coverage, much better than the usual sideline camera.

Very cool. In my continuous at Americanization I have been failing most meserably at grasping and attuning to football and baseball. I loved football every time I watched it and the rules have been explained to me. The Sunday after next I will be getting together with a high school friend and her gang to watch a game and get the full experience. I am sure to appreciate the camera you mention then.

Just a minute mister...you're telling me there's an actual camera hovering over the field? I thought it was a goal post camera that has the angles digitally manipulated to simulate the hovering experience.

Indeed it is. When they do the sideline camera view, you can see the flying camera above the field, behind the quarterback. It's on a leash so it does fly off out of control. But I do have to say that it gives a very smooth, cool view of the action. Way better than Helmet-Cam or Ref-Cam.
