Armstrong not an athlete?

|

Great feat, but not a great athlete Praise Armstrong's grit, his determination and his cardio-vascular system. But don't try to convince me he's the world's greatest athlete. First try to convince me he's an athlete at all.

This is a joke, right? Of course it is.

But let us play along just for fun. If Ron Borges wants to say that Armstrong isn't an athlete, then he should also say that cycling is not a sport. He doesn't want to do that because competitive cycling is a sport.

He claims that all Armstrong can do is pump his legs up and down on a bike and that doesn't make him an athlete. But in the same story he talks about Marion Jones, who last I check pumps her legs up and down, albeit with no bike.

After all, all Armstrong does is climb the friggin' French Alps on a bicycle. Pah...that's not hard now is it?

If all Armstrong did was ride a stationary bike with a computer attached telling him how good he was, then fine...he wouldn't be an athelete. But he is out there kicking other people's asses every year to win that race. That makes him an athlete is most people's books.

I certainly say he is a better "athlete" than most of the offensive linemen in the NFL these days...
